The phrase “Kingdom of God” is found often in Jesus’ teaching. You’ll also find “Kingdom of Heaven.” There is debate about these terms and whether they are synonyms. One possibility is that Kingdom of Heaven was used to avoid using God’s name in the Jewish context. Regardless, there’s no doubt that Kingdom language is prominent in Jesus’ teaching, and these phrases are more or less interchangeable. Let’s learn more about God’s Kingdom, beginning with its central role in Old Testament thought.
