What comes to mind when you hear the term “epistle?” Some unusual, ancient form of writing? Most of the New Testament books are epistles, so it’s important to figure out just what they mean. They are certainly letters . . . formal letters written to congregations, and we’ll explore the formal part in just a bit.

In this module we’ll also look at what might have been Paul’s first epistle, Galatians, which provides a great introduction to many of the themes he references in his other letters . . . themes like justification by faith, life in the Spirit and the threats of legalism and license. So let’s begin our journey with the most prolific writer in the New Testament.
