James draws on a rich tradition of Wisdom Literature from the Old Testament. One example is the shared ideas we find in James and Proverbs. See the table below for some examples.

And the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grasshe will pass away. For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? (James 2:6 ESV)	The poor is disliked even by his neighbor, but the rich has many friends. Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor. For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. (James 3:2 ESV)	When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. (Proverbs 10:19 ESV)
