The Old Testament helps me to understand who God is, when and how he created the earth and other creation, His grace, His righteousness, and His justice.
-
It shows God’s grace and patience and love. It helps us know Him better and understand Him.
-
It shows God’s love and grace to all even if they are rebellious, He still loves us all and we can all turn to Him.
-
It allows us to see God’s mercy at work. Grace is given, but mercy is compassion at its best.

There are subtle undertones of a deep and loving call to His creation to be in a relationship. There is no forcing us to be good. God calls to us in our sinful and broken condition with hope and a way to return to fellowship with Him. The Old Testament may seem harsh at times, but there is always the idea that God, in love, has provided a way out.
