The Book of Genesis tells us that creation teaches us that human beings are inadequate without God. It shows us that sin is the “ultimate addiction” and no matter how much we want to break free from sin, it is impossible to do it on our own.

We seem to want to know the “how” and “when” of creation, and a lot of arguement and name calling goes on between christians who disagree over their answers. But Genesis is not so much interested in when, how long ago, etc. It rather addresses the questions of “who” and “why”. “In the beginning GOD” (who) and “Let us make man in our own image” (why). We come face to face with the eternal God who created ALL. And we soon see his everlasting, unconditional love for mankind.

We learn right away that God is the creator (the who), and we learn what he created. He was not created but yet spoke the world into existence, and breathed life into mankind and created man in His image, setting humans apart from animals.

There is one Creator and that is our God who created ALL things in the beginning.
